Cabooses
The Great Northern Railway rostered many cabooses of varying types. Most were built by its own shops, with the majority being built at the shops in St. Cloud. Starting in the 1960s the GN also bought cabooses from an outside supplier; Morrison - International. At the time of the Burlington Northern merger, Great Northern's large roster of cabooses comprised of many different types ranging from steel-frame wooden cabooses built in the early 1900s, to modern, 1960s built, steel wide vision cabooses. The GN also rebuilt several freight and passenger cars to serve as cabooses. Even frames from retired diesel locomotives were used for a series of transfer cabooses.
