The Great Northern started adding safety slogans to cabooses in 1953, a practice that was discontinued in 1967 when the Big Sky Blue paint scheme was adopted. Ten different safety slogans were used with each separate slogan assigned to cabooses with numbers ending with the same digit. In later years, through renumbering, missing stencils or just plain sloppiness, some cabooses ended up with the wrong slogan. The following list shows the combinations as intended: |
